OUR BEGINNING.

Demand Diversity was founded by Ash Rishi, the chair of our board.

One of Ash’s most defining experiences was his dad passing away from cancer after failing to be thoroughly assessed by experts in the field. His symptoms were missed for several years due to biases on the part of healthcare professionals. Had his healthcare team been aware of their own biases, and willing to consider him for potentially life-saving clinical research, he might still be here today.

Ash’s response was to create important changes that could prevent other families going through such painful, and potentially preventable, experiences.

Demand Diversity started as a passion project while building COUCH Health (a creative health engagement agency) to highlight that healthcare and clinical research aren’t diverse, inclusive or equitable, and that these industries need to do better. We work to ensure healthcare organisations do more for underserved ethnic communities, people from lower socio-economic backgrounds that face barriers to accessing healthcare, the LGBTQ+ community, and many others.

Our Passion.

We’ve all been shaped by experiences with our own health, and the health of our loved ones. The team at Demand Diversity is no different. And, with more than 50 years experience working with charities, non-profits, patients, communities and clinical research companies, we know first-hand the impact that the current lack of diversity, inclusion and equity has on the outcomes for underrepresented people. We’re here to make change happen now – for ourselves and for future generations.
